Margaret's parents, Edward Coates and Hannah Thomas had her baptised 9 March 1828 in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham.[1]

On 6 Oct 1849, Christopher Hardy married Margaret Coates at the church of St Thomas in Stockton. His father was Thomas Hardy and her father was Edward Coates. [2]
