Thomas Coates was born in Bridlington, Yorkshire, England.
Thomas Coates was christened on 12 November 1792[1] in Bridlington, Yorkshire, England in the established church as the son of James Coates and Mary Audas[2].
When he reached his teens He was apprenticed to Francis Auther, An Anchorsmith. He worked with Francis for seven years learning the skills for the tades of Anchorsmith, Whitesmith and Bell-Hanging[2]
On 7 September 1817 he married Elizabeth Hopper in Bridlington Priory Church, Bridlington , Yorkshire, England[3]. The witnesses were Ruth Hopper (Possible Bride's Sister) and William Coates[2]. Their children were
On 17 June 1818 he was made a Burgess or Freeman of Kingston-upon-Hull. The Baines Yorkshire directory lists Thomas Coates as a Whitesmith, Bellhanger and Anchorsmith in New Buildings, Quay[2].
In 1841 he was living on The Promanade, Bridlington, Yorkshire[4] with most of his family.
All of his children left home in Bridlington, Yorkshire except Charles and Edwin by 1851[5].
He died on 21 July 1872 in Bridlington, Yorkshire[6] and was buried in Bridlington Congregational church alongside his son Thomas[2].
