Biography

Early Years and Pre-War

Joseph Cobb, was born about 4 February, 1733, in Northampton County, North Carolina to parents Joseph Cobb and Catherine Whitehead. [1]

He married Rachel B. LNU about 1759. The family moved from the Blue Ridge Mountains about 1782 to the Little Briar Creek of Wilkes and Warren County Georgia.

  5. James L. COBB, He went to Feliciana Parish LA. and lived close to Nathaniel Cobb (his brother) near the Amite River. James followed Ezekiel Cobb (his brother to Santa Rosa Co., FL. In 1850 census, James listed with son Joseph and Joseph's wife Margaret. James age listed as 85.

  7. Benjamin COBB, married and moved to Louisiana, maybe Copiah County Mississippi with son Absolom

Planter, by an intermarriage with Rachel Cobb, late widow and Relict of Joseph Cobb, Farmer late of Sd. County and State dec'd, became seized and possessed of a right of Inheritance in one third part of a Tract of land... on the water of Brier Creek containing two hundred acres as the Dower of the said Rachel, which said Land was originally claimed, possessed , improved and occupied by the said JOSEPH COBB in his lifetime and at his decease, and hath been since surveyed for and confirmed to the Sd. Rachel Cobb by a Grant from the hand his HONOR GEO. HANDLEY, ESQR. GOV. & dated Aug. 13, 1788, recorded Book QQQ fo. 352 the 10 of the same... William MCCULLERS and Rachel his wife for and inconsideration of 15 pounds paid by EZEKIEL COBB, son of the said Rachel and Joseph Cobb, hath sold him 200 acres... WM MCCULLERS (SEAL). (1787) Land Warrant - 150 acres with Little Brier Creek running through almost the middle with a branch of Little Brier Creek running to the right at the top 1/3 was land that belonged to Francis Grubs (Francis Grubbs), husband of Mary Cobb and the d/o Joseph & Rachel Cobb. To the south and connected to Francis was Widow Cobb. and to the far bottom left was vacant land, to the far top left was William McCullars (Same William McCullers) ., to the top (north) Wm. McCullars land, to the right was Vacant Land. Abalsom & Daniel Cobb were wit to this warrent.[6]

Wife of Cobb-4803 wife seems to be accurate considering available sources. This discrepancy should be rectified with available sources where this merge can go forward.
