Biography

James was the son of Thomas Church Cobb and Ann Louise Wheeler, The grandson of Archibald Cobb and Rebecca James. The greatgrandson of Clisby Cobb and Margaret Young of Catawab Co. NC. James immigrated to Fannin Co. Tx about 1850. James married there to Mary Jane Wheeler about 1865. James came to Childress Co. in 1914. He was living with his daughter Willie wife of John Burgan Mitchell at the time of his death.

On 6 Sep 1870 at the time of the 1870 US Census, head of household Thomas C. Cobb (age 57, born in NC) was employed as a Teamster and living on real estate valued at $2,500 with $2,600 in personal estate in Precinct 1, Fannin County, Texas with his wife Ann L. Cobb (age 48, born in TN); son Benton Cobb (age 22, born in TN); daughter Ann L. Cobb (age 20, born in TN); son James E. Cobb (age 27, born in AL) employed as a Teamster with personal estate valued at $1,000; daughter-in-law Mary J. Cobb (age 22, born in TN); grandson Samuel E. Cobb (age 4, born in TX); and grandson Wheeler Cobb (age 2, born in TX). ^[1]

Cobb (age 38, born in AL) was employed as a Farmer and living in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas with his wife Mary Cobb (age 33, born in TN); son Samuel Cobb (age 12, born in TX); daughter Buela Cobb (age 9, born in TX); son Tom Cobb (age 7, born in TX); and son Will Cobb (age 3, born in TX). James's father was born in North Carolina and his mother in Tennessee; Mary's parents were both born in Tennessee. ^[2]

On 11 Jun 1900 at the time of the 1900 US Census, head of household Jas E. Cobb (age 58, born Nov 1842 in Alabama) was employed as a Farmer and living in a farmhouse he rented in Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory with his daughter Linnie Cobb (age 20, born Aug 1880 in Texas); and daughter May Cobb (age 17, born Apr 1883 in Texas). Jas had been married for 33 years; his parents were both born in North Carolina. Linnie and May's father was born in Alabama, and their mother was born in Tennessee. ^[3]
