Biography

John Cobb, son of John Cobb (abt.1661-1727) and his wife, Rachel (Soule) Cobb (abt.1663-1727), great grandson of Mayflower passenger, George Soule, was born in Middleboro, Massachusetts, 10 June 1689.[1][2]

John married firstly, about 1712 in Middleboro, Joanna Thomas. Joanna, daughter of William and Sarah (Pratt) Thomas was born in Middleboro, 10 May 1693. She died in Middleboro 11 Nov 1724 when she was 32 years old. Joanna was a descendant of Mayflower passenger, Degory Priest. William Thomas named his daughter, Joanna Cobb, in his will dated 22 Nov 1727.[1]

"John Cob Junior and Mary Connant : both of the town of Middleborough were married August the : 26 1725" by Jacob Tomson, Justice of the peace.[2] Mary was born in Middleboro, 20 Dec 1703, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth (Washburn) Conant. Mary Cobb died 16 Aug 1695 in her 92nd year, in Middleboro. She was a descendant of Francis Cooke, also a Mayflower passenger.[1]

John Cobb died in Middleboro 6 July 1750 in his 72nd year. He and his two wives are buried at "The Green" in Middleboro.[1][3]

John Cobb, yeoman of Middleborough wrote his will 9 Aug 1746. He named his wife Mary and children Gershom, John, Nathan, Gideon, Ephraim, Joanna Wood, Lydia Thompson, Mary and Hannah Cobb. It was proved 6 Aug 1750.[1][4]

His inventory was taken on 27 August 1750 and recorded at Plymouth (The town clerk did not itemize it.). His widow, Mary gave oath that it was the inventory she knew.[5]
