"Waterfall Sanatorium, also known as Garrawarra Cemetery is the final resting place of perhaps 2000 people who died from tuberculous while being treated at the Waterfall Sanatorium also known as the Garrawarra Hospital for Consumptives. It is located north west of Helensburgh, in the northern-most part of the Wollongong local government area. This cemetery was forgotten and left to vines and overgrowth; however, was "officially" rediscovered in 2012. There are approximately 54 marked graves with headstones still visible. Cemetery records are scare since they were not maintained. Burials were placed in various sections based on religion; for example, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Church of England, etc. Currently, various groups are researching and promoting the cemetery, hoping to make its status a state or national heritage treasure and preserve it.
