Biography

According to my grandfather Bertie (Dan) Cochrane, our branch of the Cochrane family migrated from Northern Ireland to Liverpool in the early 1800s. My brother Chad has done the Y DNA test and we match with some Cochrane cousins whom originated from Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland.

On his son's original marriage record, his father is recorded as William Cochrane, occupation Tin Plate Worker. There were many stories in the family about him being a Tinsmith.

Below are some possiblities that might be William, but not conclusive as yet.

Firstly, there was a William Cochrane who was the son of John Cochrane and hi swife Ann. We find a John Cochrane in the 1841 Census whom appears to be Widowed with children Betsy 15 , Robert 13 and William aged 10, he is a Brazier so another interesting possibility of the father of William born circa 1831.

There is a baptism record in 1827 for a William Coughren at St Peter Liverpool, which is the Gaelic spelling of Cochrane.

In 1858 there is a marriage of William Cochrane and Sarah Hinds in Manchester, Lancashire. This William dies about 1865 and his wife Sarah marries again to an Andrew Hinds, but no conclusive as his son William never wavers from his place of birth being Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

Then there is a marriage on 16 Sep 1847 in Hampstead, London if a William Cochrane to Catherine Elvira Jenkins, definitely not this William as he is listed as Esquire on Marriage Certificate as his profession, not Tin Plate Worker or Blacksmith, both fathers listed as Esquire (Gent).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
