Biography

Frederick was born in 1883, his birth registered at Mount Egerton, Victoria, as the son of John Cock and Emily Jacka.^[1][2]

In 1905, in Victoria, he married Mabel Jane Roberts.^[3] Together the couple had one child Frederick Thomas Cox (1905-1957) ^[4] Unfortunately, after giving birth to their son at Mount Egerton, Mabel passed away, aged 19.^[5]

DEATH OF A YOUNG WOMAN. Great regret was expressed at Egerton on Friday when it became known that a young married woman, Mrs Frederick Cox, died during confinement. She was only about 21 years of age. Great sympathy is felt for Mr Cox and the deceased lady’s immediate friends in their bereavement. The infant is living.^[6]

In 1910, Frederick married Anna Elizabeth Farish in Victoria, Australia.^[7]

Frederick served in World War I, he enlisted on 12 May 1916 in Melbourne.^[8]

Frederick Charles Cox passed away on 9 September 1942, aged 59 in Yarraville, Victoria, Australia.^[2][9]

DEATHS COX--On September 9, suddenly, Frederick Charles Cox, the dearly loved husband of Hannah Elizabeth, of 16 Knox-street, Yarraville, and loving father of Emily and John (deceased), Charles, Valda, Robert and Eric, aged 59 years. Private funeral. No flowers.^[10]

Frederick is buried in the Church of England portion of Footscray Cemetery, with his mother, Emily Cocks, who predeceased him in 1921. ^[11]

COX.-—The Funeral of the late Mr. FREDERICK CHARLES COX will leave 16 Knox-street, Yarraville, THIS DAY, at 1.30 p. m., for the Footscray Cemetery. NELSON BROS., Footscray. MW1301 and 1302.^[10][12]

The epitaph on his grave reads:

27607 Driver / F.C.Cox / 2 Dev. Ammunition Column / 9th September 1942 Age 59 / Greater love / hath no man than this / that he lay down his life
