Biography

Born c1836 St. Blazey, Cornwall the son of John Cock and Mary nee Rich. [1]

He married in 1858 at S.A. to Lavinia nee Varcoe. Died in 1875 aged 38 years. Children were Matthew (-1925 Bendigo ), Mary Hannah (1861 Epsom-), John (1863 Epsom-), James (1865-1866 Bendigo ), Frederick John (1869 S.A.-1872), Sydney Albert, Fanny Edith (1872 Eaglehawk-1876) and Selena Adelaide (1874 Nerring-). (Eaglehawk Pioneers).

Born 25th December 1836 at St. Blazey the son of John Cock and Mary nee Rich. Died 2nd May 1875 at California Gully. Married 17th October 1858 in Kooringa , South Australia to Lavinia nee Varcoe. Bendigo Cemetery database states: Buried 2nd May 1875 in the Eaglehawk cemetery in grave number 32. [2]

Death notice for son Matthew Henry reads: On 21st January 1907, at Bendigo from pneumonia. Matthew Henry Cock, late of Newport Workshops. The eldest son of Mrs M. Cock, Bendigo ; and brother of James Cock (Williamstown), S. A. Cock (Bendigo ), Mrs F. R. Rosan (Turrumberry), Mrs F. Hall (Broken Hill). Aged 47.

1841 Census states: Location - Tywardreath Highway . John Cock aged 30 years and Copper miner by occupation. Mary Cock aged 25 years. John Cock aged 7 years; Matthew Cock aged 5 years; Mary Cock aged 3 years; Ann Cock aged 1 year; and Margaret Rich aged 15 years and Copper Mine Labourer by occupation.
