Thomas Cockburn was born in 1845 in Etal, Ford parish, Northumberland, England to Christopher Cockburn and Mary Ann (Park) Cockburn. His birth was registered in Glendale, Northumberland in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Park.[1]

On 30 Mar 1851 Thomas Lockburn [Cockburn] (age 5, Scholar) lived in the village of Etal, Ford parish with his mother Mary Ann (43, Laborer's Wife) and four siblings: Mary (24, Assistant), Christiann (10, Scholar), Jane (8, Scholar), and Charles (2).[3] His father Christopher (45, Labourer) was a visitor in St Nicholas, Durham.
On 7 Apr 1861 Thomas Cockburn (age 15, Scholar) lived in Etal Village, Ford parish with his mother Mary Ann (52, Laundress) and five siblings: Mary (33, Laundress), George (22, House Servant), Jane (17, Laundress), Charles (13, Scholar), and Ann (9, Scholar).[4]
He married Christina Chirnside in 1878 at Mordington, Berwickshire. They moved to Duddo, Northumberland, shown as servants in the 1881, 1891 & 1901 censuses, at a house called Nine Walls.
After Christina's death, Thomas remarried to another servant, Martha Douglas Blyth.
He passed away about 1911, exact date unknown. [5]
