His obituary was published in the Winn Parish Enterprise-New American, April 26, 1972, and read:

Apr. 21, 1905 Winn Parish Louisiana, USA Death: Apr. 21, 1972 Winnfield Winn Parish Louisiana, USA

Funeral services for former Winn Parish Police Juror Alfred W. Cockerham, 67, of Winnfield, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at East Winnfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Yocum officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Cockerham died Friday, April 21, 1972 at Winnfield General Hospital after a long illness. He had served two terms on the Winn Parish Police Jury and was a retail merchant for 21 years at Joyce. He was a member of the East Winnfield Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Cockerham also taught Sunday School for 12 years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eula Cockerham of Winnfield; two sons, J. I. Cockerham of West Monroe and Bill Cockerham of Jena; two daughters, Mrs. Wauniece Thomas and Mrs. Bobby Jordan, both of Winnfield; three brothers, Albert Cockerham of Winnfield, Benjie Cockerham of Alabama, and Morgan Cockerham of Melbourne, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. Zona Bartley of New Orleans, Miss Anna Cockerham of Joyce, Mrs. Gertrude Lee of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Irene Baker of Jacksonville, Texas, Mrs. Blondell Busby of Joyce, and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers included Howard Cockerham, Mike Cockerham, David Morse, Jr., Allen Morse, George Bartley, Jimmy Tucker, Donald Conaway, and A. C. Busby, all nephews of the deceased.
