Biography

William Henry Cockerill was born in Otago, New Zealand in 1881. He was the son of Frederick Cockerill and Margaret Amanda Taylor.

In 1908 he married Louie Ellen Beatty. Their sons were: John Cockerill, William Henry Cockerill and Ross Crozier Cockerill. At the time his will was prepared he noted that John was married to Lilian and William Henry's wife was Rose Isabel. He had grandchildren by then, being Dawn Louie Wright, Ronald John & Francis Ross Cockerill, all children of his son William Henry Cockerill. He also had a great grandchild, Melanie Wright. William & Louie's son John had children as well and they were Ellenor, Thomas Ross, Maryian, and William Henry, no doubt named after his grandfather.

The 1911 Electoral roll shows William and his wife Louie living at 5 Baldwin Street, William a coal merchant. Also at the same address was Frederick Cockerill, labourer.

The Probate record, and his will, show that he was a retired coal merchant. His wish was that after death he would be cremated and his remains would be scattered.
