Biography

Ann Cocks (married names Thomas and Parish) was born about 1814.

Marriage. On 25th January 1838, she married Elisha Thomas at Ashburton, Devonshire . [1] [2]

They had at least one child, in Somerset, before emigrating to Tasmania.

Emigration to Australia. In Hobart, Tasmania by 1844, when Daniel was born.

The following year, the Thomas family had removed to the mainland, to the Colony of South Australia.

The Thomas family spent a number of years in Victoria, on the goldfields at Forest Creek, now Castlemaine.

Their final child was born Unley, South Australia.

Widowed. In November 1866, Ann was widowed.

Marriage. On 13th March 1868, Ann married widower, John Parish, at the Registry Office in Adelaide, South Australia. Their ages were not recorded. Their fathers were named as William Cox and Smith Parish. For some reason, their marriage was registered twice. [3]

Death. Ann passed away 13th May 1902 at Blackheath, Victoria, aged 87. Her parents were not recorded on her death registration, but her birthplace was confirmed as Devonshire. [4]

Mrs J. Parish, another old-time resident of the Wimmera, and mother of some of the most substantial farmers of this district, died an Wednesday, of senile decay. She was 88 years of age. [5]
