Jemima Coe was born 1799 in Surry County, NC, a daughter of Isaiah Coe who left a will in Surry Co. NC in 1836. The will mentions daughter Jemima Stinson, wife of Aaron Stinson. Jemima Coe married Aaron Stinson in Surry Co. NC, bond dated Feb. 11, 1826, bondsman William C. Bird. The bondsman was a blood relative of the bride most commonly. In the 1836 will Jemima's mother was also named Jemima. She was a daughter of Giles Hudspeth in his 1796 Surry Co. NC. will. The will of Giles mentions daughter Jemima Coe and Isaiah Coe. By the 1850 census Aaron Stinson, wife and children, moved south to Polk Co. TN. The census shows some of their neighbors as Dodsons and Goforths. This would indicate that the Stinsons were living near Greasy Creek. Jemima Stinson died sometime after the 1850 census. She is thought to be buried in what is now the Hiwassee Union Bap. cemetery, or also what is called 'Reliance Cemetery' off Hwy. 30 East, about 1 mile from the hamlet of Reliance, TN. and the Hiwassee River. One of the older tombstones in this cemetery is for a Warren Dodson who died in 1855.
