Biography

According to his death record Andrew Jackson Coe was born on 14 January 1835 at Surry County, North Carolina, the son of William Coe and Jencie Bullin (both born in North Carolina), died at Rockford Township, Surry County on 30 November 1813 and was buried on 29 November 1913 at Stony Knoll. The informant was H.E. Coe.[1] On the marriage record for Jackson Coe and Adaline Stanley it was recorded he was the son of William and Jensey Coe.[2]

In 1840 Andrew Coe was likely one of the males under age 5 in the household of William Coe at Surry County. The other male under age five was likely his brother Arnold Coe.[3]

In 1850 Jackson Coe was living with his father and his step-mother Rachel Coe at Rockford, Surry County. He was recorded as 14 years old.[4]

Jackson Coe married Julia Stanly on 2 October 1855 at Surry County. The minister was Thos. V. Hamlin.[5][6][7][8]

In 1860 A.J. Coe was living at Rockford with his wife Julian and two children.[9]

In 1870 Andrew J. Coe was living with his wife Jane and six children at Rockford. His wife's parents were living in the next dwelling.[10]

On 11 June or July of 1876 Jackson Coe married Adaline Stanley at Rockford Township, Surry County. L.W. Snow was the minister. The witnesses were Nancy Stanley, Mildred G. Stanly and Plutina Coe.[11] An earlier source records the license was applied for on 10 July 1876, the marriage performed on 11 June 1876.[2]

In 1880 Andrew J. Coe was living with his wife Adaline and seven children at Rockford.[12]

In 1900 Jackson A. Coe was living at Rockford with his wife Adaline and his nephew James E. Watson, (son of his sister Pricilla Coe Watson). His brother Haston Coe was living in the next dwelling.[13]

In 1910 Jackson and Adaline Coe were living in the household of their son James M. Coe and his family at Rockford. Jackson was recorded as 75 years old and married for 34 years, his second marriage.[14]
