Biography

Joseph was a Friend (Quaker)

Birth and Parents: Joseph is the son of Thomas Coebourne and Elizabeth Cockfield.

His date of birth is not known at the time of writing but is most likely after his parents marriage in 1659.

Joseph arrived with his parents and sibling aboard Bristol Factor, one of the first three of William Penn's fleet to arrive in December 1681. [1]

Marriages:

1. Susannah Churchman. On November 26, 1690, Joseph Coebourn, son of Thomas Coebourn of the Township of Chester, Province, Pennsylvania, married Susannah Churchman, daughter of George Churchman, also of Chester, at the home of Edward Carter in the Township of Aston, Chester, Pennsylvania. Among those signing the Certificate were Thomas Coebourn, George Churchman, William Churchman, John Churchman, and Francis Baldwin.[2][3]
2. Sarah Hallowfield. On March 5, 1718, Joseph Coebourn of Chester, Pennsylvania and Sarah Hallowfield, also of Chester, were married at Chester MM. Among those signing the Certificate of Marriage were William Coebourn, Mary Coebourn, Thomas Coebourn, Rachel Coebourn, Thomas Coebourn, John Coebourn, Philip Padrick, Elizabeth Padrick, John Churchman, Joseph Coebourn and Caleb Coebourn.[4]

Deed: On the 7th day, 8th month, 1691, Thomas Morror of Aston Township, Chester, Pennsylvania conveyd a tract of land described by metes and bounds in Chester County to Joseph Coebourne of the Township of Chester, Chester, Pennsyvlania.[5]

Last Will and Testament: On May 3, 1723, Joseph Coeburn of Aston Township, Chester, Pennsylvania, executed his Last Will and Testatment leaving his Estate as follows: first, to his wife Sarah Coeburn a life estate in the Plantation and tract of land in the Township of Aston with a remainder estate to his sons, Caleb Coeburn and Joshua Coeburn, equally; second, to his a daughter Sara £50 and a 300 acres tract in Sadsbury Township; third to his daughters Dinah, Lydia, and Susanna, equally when the last of them turns 18 years old, from a bond owed by James Gibbons and probably assigned to William Burson; fourth, to his son Thomas Coeburn, one shilling; fifth, to his son Joseph Coeburn, one shilling; sixth, to his daughter Elizabeth and her children, one shilling each; and seventh, the rest and residue of his Estate to his wife. Witnesses: John Churchman, Arthur Barrett, Joseph Coeburn, Jr. The Will was proven on June 15, 1739.[6]

Joseph Weldon, witness to the will of William Erwin December 3, 1717. Mr. Erwin names Thomas Coeburn "friend" and executor, names Thomas Coeburn Sr. and his sons Thomas Coeburn Jr. and Joseph Coeburn. [7]
