Ephraim was born on the 14th of May 1820 and baptised at Ebenezer Chapel on King Street, Deptford on the 20th of April 1821. [1]
He married Grace Hurlock (nee Triggs) in England and the couple emigrated to New Zealand aboard the "Blue Jacket". The "Blue Jacket" departed England on 5 August 1865 and arrived into Lyttelton on 13 November 1865. Ephraim is recorded on the passenger list as being a "shoe maker", from "Kent", aged 42 and his wife, Grace, aged 47.
Also accompanying the couple was Eliza Triggs, a single woman, recorded as a "dress maker", aged 20 on the passenger list. It is not known whether Eliza is related in any way to the Coffees. Shortly after arrival into Lyttelton, Eliza married Benjamin Hale, who Ephraim nominated in his Will as his executor.
It appears that Ephraim established a shoe making business in Cashel Street, Christchurch.
He passed away in 1870, aged 50 and is buried at the Barbadoes Street Cemetery, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.
Note: It is not clear as to which age is correct, ie the one on the passenger list, or the age on the death record.
