The Markdale Standard, November 9, 1933 Dornoch The sympathy of the people of this community is extended to the family of the late Mrs. Joseph Hamilton of Berkeley. Before her marriage to Mr. Hamilton she was Miss Gertrude Coffey, a daughter of the late P. Coffey and Mrs. Coffey of Dornoch. She is survived by her husband, five small children, her mother, two sisters and three brothers, namely: Margaret Coffey in Toronto, Mr. E. Sweeney of Welbeck, Bert at home, Joseph on the second of Holland and James in the United States.

Died Suddenly A death which caused much sadness in the neighborhood of Holland centre was that of Mrs. James Hamilton who died at her home in Holland Township on Saturday, Oct. 28th. She was buried in Chatsworth Roman Catholic Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 30th. Mrs. Hamilton had been ill for only a few days and every hope was held out for recovery but she weakened rapidly and her death came as a great shock to her many friends. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and four children, also her mother, Mrs. Patrick Riffey. Dornoch: two sisters and three brothers. Margaret in Toronto. Mrs. E. Sweeney in Dornoch, Joseph, Holland township: James, Toledo, Ohio and Bert, Dornoch. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Father J. McGahey of Owen Sound, and rev. father grace of Markdale, was largely attended. The pall-bearers were Messrs. B. Parker, C. Strycker, P. Hamilton, A. Dale, J. Robson, J. Strycker.
Gertrude's family were members of St. Paul's R.C. Church, Dornoch. Gertrude worked at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Owen Sound. She played the organ at Mass. She was married in St. Mary's Church. (info from daughter, Marie (nee Hamilton) Zettler.)
