Taylor Earl Coffindaffer was born in Shinnston, West Virginia on October 22, 1916 to Dorsey Coffindaffer and Mary Cole. He was the youngest of three children born to the couple.
Taylor was raised in Shinnston, West Virginia. His father died in 1920, when he was four years old. His widowed mother kept the children in Shinnston until some time between 1930 and 1935 when they moved to Morgantown, West Virginia.
Taylor studied at West Virginia University. He lived with his mother in Morgantown while attending university. He became an X-ray technician. Taylor attended the Franklin School of Science and Art in Philadelphia, where he met his future wife, Virginia Betz, who he married in 1944.
On August 24, 1943, Taylor enlisted in the United States Army to serve during WWII. He earned the rank of Technician fourth grade, which was created to recognize enlisted soldiers with special technical skills, but who were not trained as combat leaders.
After his military service, Taylor returned to West Virginia with Virginia. The couple lived in Terra Alta, West Virginia. They both worked in the state hospital. Taylor was an X-ray technician there.
The couple then moved to Oakland, Maryland and then Hopemont, West Virginia, where both worked at the Hopemont Hospital for many years.
Taylor died in Preston County, West Virginia on September 6, 1983. He was 66 years old. He is buried under a military marker in Shinnston Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum in Shinnston, West Virginia.
