Biography

Samuel was born in 1752. Samuel Coffman ... He passed away about 1828 Rockingham County, Virginia. The Neff Historical Society has documented his life on his findagrave Memorial. [1]

Samuel Kaufman is the son of Michael Kauffman (1714-1788 Lancaster Co., PA). Michael Kauffman gave his son, Samuel the Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania farm on 18 Dec 1788 as referenced in Kauffman-Coffman, page 549- deed in Lancaster Co., PA. (SEE IMAGES). Samuel is E1 in Charles Fah Kauffman's book. Samuel's line starts on page 554.[2]

RESEARCH TO DO NOTE: Michael died a few days later in Virginia- need to check and see if this deed is also recorded in Virginia records as well as Pennsylvania records.

Samuel Kaufman is a proven DAR (Daughters of American Revolution) Patriot with ancestor number A063702.

His service is from Pennsylvania as a soldier: Service Description: 1) 6TH CLASS, 7TH COMPANY, 8TH BATTALION, LANCASTER CO.

Service Source to prove eligibility to the DAR: PA ARCH, 5TH SER, VOL 7, P 860.

Samuel Kauffman is recorded in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mennonite Vital Records, 1750-1940 as Samuel Kauffman born about 1752; living in Rockingham County, Virginia by 1826 and died in Rockingham County, Virginia about 1828.

Additional persons included on his Mennonite Vital Record Card are his wife, Elizabeth Reist, who was daughter of John Reist; their children: Barbara Kauffman Neff and son, David Kauffman. Samuel has a nice Findagrave Memorial indicating he is buried at the Trissels Mennonite Church Cemetery in Broadway, Rockingham County, Virginia. There is a photograph of his now illegible headstone.[3]

Coffman-285 and Kauffman-1465 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. No evidence provided that LNAB was Coffman, although it may be a variation used by later descendants.
