Emma was born in 1912 (and her birth registered in 1913)[1] in Hull, Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of Charles Coggrave and Ethel Sefton.[2]
In 1932 Emma married Sydney Yates.[3] At the time of the 1939 register, the family lived on Cradley Road in Hull. Sydney worked as a clerk at an aircraft factory while Emma carried out unpaid domestic duties.[4]
