Louis was born in 1922. He was the son of Samuel Kilikowski and Bessie Dolgin.[1]
Louis died in 2005.[1] He was buried at Beth Hillel Synagogue Memorial Park in East Granby, Connecticut.[2]
Louis L. "Lou" Cohen, Z"L, 82, of West Hartford, long-time musician, died on Thursday (March 17, 2005) Adar II, sixth, 5765, during a family visit to Israel. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Miriam "Mimi" (Shapiro) Cohen. Born in Hartford, he graduated from Weaver High and Hillyer College (now part of University of Hartford). Stationed in England in World War II in the Army's Eighth Air Force, he organized the "Jive Bombers" band, flew on missions over Germany, and, as part of Operation Chowhound, dropped food to the Dutch. A draftsman and engineer, he worked for 43 years at the MDC. He was a founding member of Beth Shalom's synagogue, now Beth Hillel. Serving on the Greater Hartford Transit District Board, he helped to restore the Hartford Railroad Station and to expand train and bus service. He also served as member and chairman of the West Hartford Board of Special Assessments. Playing his various saxophones with many bands including his own, he entertained at weddings, bar mitzvahs, night clubs, and parties for more than 65 years. In addition, for over 25 years, he performed as a member of the First Governor's Footguard Band at many parades, concerts, and special events. A prize-winning bowler, he was a member of the West Hartford Regents. Lou volunteered with the Hi-Tones to provide music for the weekly senior dances at West Hartford Town Hall. He enjoyed extensive travel with family and friends. In addition to his wife, he leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cheryl of Needham, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Shoshanah and Avraham HaCohen of Tekoah, Israel; daughter, Marci of Monsey, NY; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Barbara Rosenthal and eight nieces and nephews, and was the brother of the late Helen Fuhr and the late Diane Basch. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many. Funeral will be at Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield, Monday, March 21, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Beth Hillel Memorial Park Cemetery, Wolcott Road, East Granby. Memorial will be observed at the Cohen home, 221 Ballard Dr., West Hartford. Funeral arrangements provided by Hebrew Funeral Association, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.[3]
