Amanda's date of birth is seen ranging from 1852 to 1858 with the latter from the 1900 US Census and the only citation showing a month, September.[1] The evidence concerning her biological father Chester Colburn, mother Cordelia, and step-father Marcus Treat stems primarily from Dodge City news reports (leading back to census data) in the 1890s which identify her brother as Judge E. F. Colburn of Salt Lake City, Utah and her mother as Mrs M.J.R. Treat of Hays visiting her daughter Mrs. A.B. Webster.
She married Alonzo Webster 29 Mar 1872 at Hays, Ellis, Kansas. To their marriage was born one son, Alan, born 10 Oct 1875 in Dodge City, Kansas who passed away in 1899 in Montana from Bright's disease (acute or chronic nephritis).[2]
After the death of her husband Alonzo in 1887, Amanda moved back to Hays, Kansas. Between 1900 and 1910, Amanda married again to Franklin Wilson, born 1862 in New York, and they are living in Hays, Kansas in the same home as Amanda's mother and step-father.[3] In the 1930 Census both Amanda and Franklin still reside in Hays.[4]
The Ellis County Historical Society has in its files the obituary of Mrs. F. M. Wilson dated 20 Jan 1931.[5] In the obituary she is simply noted as "Mrs. Frank Wilson, a pioneer resident of Hays, died last night at 11 o'clock at St Anthony's Hospital." Her first husband is not mentioned and her son, Alan, without his name as "having died a number of years ago." The obituary even states she had made her home in Hays for more than sixty years which is inaccurate. It gives her date and place of birth as 1853 at Fiddlesticks (Fiddlestix), Ohio and states her body will be taken to Kansas City.
Civil War pension from Alonzo: Appl Number 423449; Certificate Number 400424. Kansas. 21 May 1890.[6]
