Nathaniel Colborne, son of Leonard and Sarah (Lewes) Colborne, was baptized Sept. 12, 1611 at Woolverstone, Suffolk, England. The Parish Register of Woolverstone, Suffolk, England shows that "Leonard Colborne and Sara[h] Lewes both single maried the 24th of August" 1601.[1]
His sister, Sarah, was baptized there on April 8, 1606, daughter of Leonard. In her will written March 13, 1672, spinster Sarah Colborn of Woolverston, left bequests to ' 'my loveing brother Nathaniel Colborn, now liveing in Dedham in New England ...[1]
Nathaniel Colborne came from England in 1636 and settled at Dedham, Massachusetts. He was one of the first town inhabitants and was involved in early town meetings in establishing the town boundaries, distributing lands, and making early decisions on the meetinghouse, schooling and other issues. This was prior to their having been established official town officers. He did serve as selectman, surveyor, deputy, fence viewer and other small posts during his life in Dedham. [2]
He married Priscilla Clark at Dedham on July 25, 1639. [3][2][4]
He died at Dedham on May 14, 1691. ["Nathanael Coalburne, Sen., deceased May 14, 1691."][3][2]
His will dated June 30, 1690 provided for his wife and eleven children, including:
