Biography
George w Colby was a surgeon with the 1st Maine Cavalry, was 42 years old when he joined in 1861 . Went to Bowdoin College Mr Colby's daughter Married George Swan sr. After the early death of George's daughter and son in law, he raised and educated his grandson George Swan Jr. I am looking for any further information on Mr. Colby, his unit saw more deaths than any other Cavalry unit known , being a surgeon during this war I cannot imagine!
