Page Thomas Colby was born in 1785 in South Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire, United States as the first of eight children to Thomas Colby Jr. (1757-1842) and Lydia Webster (1764-1843).

    Sylvia left her husband in 1841 and went with her four children to Chicago. John followed her to Chicago and attempted a reconciliation which failed. He returned to Vermont. He later married Mary A. Labore.
