Reliance was born about 1756 in Chatham, Connecticut Colony, the daughter of Marcus Cole and Phoebe Scovill. Note that Reliance's birth record does not appear in the East Hampton (Chatham) Church records because those records begin with 1764 (see image on her father's profile page).
She married Joseph Knowlton on October 8, 1779 in Colchester, Connecticut. In the marriage record Joseph is said to be of Colchester and Reliance of Chatham.
The records of the Second Congregational Church of Colchester, Connecticut contain the following notation on June 21, 1780: "Alliance the wife of Joseph Knowlton died".
Contrary to what is shown in the Knowlton Genealogy, Reliance and Joseph had no children. All of Joseph's seven children were born to his third wife Thankful Gates.
