Biography

Robert Cole was born 29 July 1775 in North Carolina. He was the son of William Cole and Hannah. Some researchers believe Hannah's maiden name was Whitaker. Hannah married John Combs of Oglethorpe County, Georgia after the death of William Cole. It is believed that Robert moved to Georgia from North Carolina with his grandfather, John Cole. John named Robert as his grandson in his 1808 last will and testament.

At the age of 21, Robert married Elizabeth Fambrough in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Elizabeth was age 17. Robert and Elizabeth had thirteen children between 1797 and 1823.

Robert passed away on 20 March 1852 in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia. He was 76 years old. He is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
