Philip was born in Pennsylvania in 1799. He relocated to Ohio before 1840, when he (born 1791-1800) was in Richland Township, Hancock County, Ohio, with a wife (born 1801-1810) and five children (2 sons, born 1835-1840) and 3 daughters (born 1825-1840). Like most of his neighbors, Philip made his living as a farmer. His first wife, Lucy, passed away in 1841, and Philip second married Hannah Smothers, widow of John Adams, who also had children from her first marriage.
In 1850, their blended family was in Richland Township, Wyandot County, Ohio, where Philip was farming, valuing his real estate at $1,600. The household consisted of Philip (50, PA), Hannah (51, PA), his children (David, 12, and Susannah J, 12), her children (Evaline, 17, and Marjory, 19), and a hired farm laborer, Taylor Smith, 16.
Philip passed away in 1854 and is buried at Adams Cemetery in Hancock County, Ohio.
