Marcus was born about 1734 in Eastham, Barnstable, Plymouth, the son of Ebenezer Cole and Elizabeth Cole.
The entire family left Eastham in 1748 and settled in East Hampton, Connecticut Colony.
Marcus married Phoebe Scovill about 1753 probably in East Hampton, Connecticut Colony.

Military Service - French and Indian War
Marcus enlisted September 1, 1755 in Capt. Joseph Savage's Company for service in what was called "The Campaign of 1755". He served until December 6, 1755.
In 1759 the records show Marcus, with the rank of sargent, serving in the Connecticut militia in Capt. Timothy Hierlihey's Company of Major General Phineas Lyman's Regiment.,
Military Service - Revolutionary War
Marcus, with the rank of lieutenant, served from November 1775 until February 6, 1778 when he resigned. He served first in Spencer's brigade; 22nd Regiment commanded by Samuel Wyllys and then with the 1st Connecticut Regiment commanded by Col. Samuel Prentice. Some of his service was with his son Abner.
Later Life
Marcus passed away February 7, 1811 in Chatham, Connecticut.
