The 1870 U.S. Census shows Henry P. Cole (age 27, Plaster Mason) living in Hackensack, New Jersey with his wife Mary (age 26) and their children: Emma (age 7), Oscar (age 5), and Henry (age 3).[9] Also in the household is John Smith, an 18-year-old Apprentice Plasterer. Henry's parents, David and Julia, are enumerated next door.
Census records between 1895 and 1910 list him living in Palisaides Township, Bergen, New Jersey along with his wife, their daughter Mary Anna, and his mother-in-law, Maria Mabie.[10][11][12][13]
The Cole family home was said to be the Revolutionary War headquarters of General William Colfax and frequently visited by George Washington. It was foreclosed and auctioned off in 1913.[14][15]
Henry P. Cole died on 22 July 1921 in Tenafly, New Jersey. He is buried with his wife in Brookside Cemetery.[16]
