Sergeant John Cole was involved in a fight with the Indians, in Winter Harbor, Maine, September 21, 1707. One hundred fifty Indians, in 50 canoes attempted to take possession of two boats anchored in the harbor. Sergent John Cole and seven others were aboard the boats, hiding, awaiting the canoes to get close enough so that no shots were fired in vain. The military men moved to the faster boat and raised the sails to go to sea. The Indians followed in the second boat, but it was slower, and they weren't skilled. In the end, after three hours, one man, Benjamin Daniel was fatally wounded. At least nine of the Indians were killed and twice as many were wounded.[3]
John died sometime after Sept 6, 1712, and Hannah married a second husband, Mark Shepard, [1] before about 1724 when she and Mark had a child together.[4]
