Mary was born in about 1828. She was baptised on 31 August, 1828 at the parish church of East Hadden, Northamptonshire. Her parents were William Cole, a labourer and his wife Mary.[1]
At the 1841 census she was 14 years old, and living with her parents and siblings at East Hadden. On this census, her name is given as Ann, probably to distinguish her from her mother Mary [2] She, was a minor, when she married Eli Cox in Badby on 28th December 1846. [3]
Between April and June 1847, their son Charles Cox was born, in Mary Ann's home village of East Haddon[4].
In January 1848, Eli died and was buried in Badby on 15th January.[5]
On 21November 1848, Mary Ann Cox,widow, d of William Cole married Thomas Cox in Badby.[6]
She and Thomas moved to Staverton and were living there in 1851, but had moved back to live in Badby by 1861.

Thomas died and was buried in Badby on 27 January 1870[9] before the birth of his last son Thomas . Mary was left a widow with a young family and was recorded as being in receipt of parish relief in 1871[10]
In 1881, Mary was working as a charwoman, with her were her children Fanny and David who was working as a farm labourer and a grandchild, Florence Cox aged 2.[11]
In 1883 Mary married again, marrying Edward Jeffs, also a widower on the 25th December at Badby [12]
By 1891, she was a widow again, the census finds her living alone in Badby and working, once more as a charwoman[13]
Mary Ann lived until the age of 73. She was buried in Badby on the 17th May 1900.[14]
