Biography

Isaac Cole who came to Montgomery County, just before the War of the Revolution, who was a gallant soldier for our independence and who was with the Clay brothers in following the Indians down Cole river as heretofore mentioned, settled near where Major Straton now lives, about the year 1800, where he lived for about one year, and buried one of his daughters; and then moved to Island Creek, and settled near the mouth of what is now known as Cole Branch. His wife was Margaret Thompson, of Montgomery County, (Now Giles County) Virginia. They married in 1796 in VA. After remaining on Island Creek for a year his family became tired of frontier life, and he returned to his old home near Pearisburg where he died at an advanced age. Isaac Cole was a noted scout and a man of great force of character and will power. Hon. L. D. Chambers, of Rum Creek, is his grandson. ("History of Logan County," Henry Clay Ragland, 1896, chapter XIV.)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Isaac by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Isaac:

Cole-10878 and Cole-9864 appear to represent the same person because: In doing research, I have found both of these profiles and believe they may be the same. Will you please review to determine. Thanks,

I am a direct male descendant of Isaac Cole (Isaac->Augustus Washington Sr->John Houston->John Wesley Sr->Willie Hoge->Billy Lee->Me, and belong to Haplogroup I-A16747. I-A16747 matches very strongly with descendants of Daniel Cole (bef.1614-1694), and John Cole (abt.1610-abt.1636).

However, while I have not been able to document a link from Isaac Cole to Daniel or John Cole, my Y-DNA results strongly point to English ancestry.

Have you uploaded your DNA results? I checked gedcom but couldnt find a kit to match yours. I am not too sure who Daniel and John Cole were because they are not documented as offspring of Isaac and Margaret
