Grace was born November 1879 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Stephen Coleman and Catherine Taylor. ^{[1] [2]}

It's possible her sister Minnie was a twin, though Minnie is only cited once, in 1895. ^[3]

Grace married William J Downey, on October 4th 1904, in Sioux City, Iowa. ^[4]

Her son James M Downey was born in 1906, in Canada. ^[5]
She gave birth to a daughter Dorothy Grace Downey, presumably late April, 1908.

Grace P Downey passed away on April 30, 1908.^[6] Her infant daughter, Dorothy G Downey, died about two weeks later, on May 13. ^[7]
