Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Fannie (Boyd) Coopwood is a part of US Black heritage.

Fannie was born a few years before the start of the Civil War. Fanny married Scott Coopwood in 1879 and in 1880 they were living in Monroe County with their six-month-old child.[1][2] Also in their household were two boarders, Burwell Coopwood and Jonas Trotter, and Mary Chandler a 5-year-old servant who worked as a nurse. It is likely that Mary's job was to care for the baby while Francis worked in the fields. In 1900, Scott and Fanny lived with their six children in Clay County, Mississippi. Francis gave birth to eight children and seven were living in 1900.[3] In 1910, Scott and Francis were living on their rented farm with their youngest daughter Laura and grandchild.[4] In 1920 both her daughter and husband were not living in the household and Francis, under the name Fanny C Moon, was raising her three grandchildren.

Her husband passed away before the 1930 Census. Fanny appears in 1930 as head of household in Clay County, Mississippi on her own farm with several of her children living on nearby farms.[5] She was living with three of her grandchildren. She likely passed away prior to the 1940 Census.
