Biography
Sarah was born c1825 at Wilshamstead, Bedfordshire, the daughter of John Coles and Catherine Simms, an estimate based on census data.
In 1841 she was living in Haynes with her parents - John Cole 40; Kittey Cole 50; Lucy Cole 18; Sarah Cole 16; Marey Cole 13; Betsey Cole 10; Thomas Elmer 21; Jane Elmer 20. All born in Bedfordshire.[1]
Aged 19 she married Frederick Joy aged 22 on 21 January 1844 at Haynes, Bedfordshire, fathers James Joy and John Coles.[2]
They were living in Haynes in 1851 - Frederic Joy Head 29 b Wilshamstead, Bedfordshire; Sarah Joy Wife 26 b Wilshamstead, Eliza Joy Daughter 6 b Hawnes; Elizabeth Joy Daughter 4 b Hawnes, Bedfordshire Catherine Cole Mother-In-Law widow 62 b Hawnes; Mary Elmer Niece 9 b Hawnes, Bedfordshire; George Cole Nephew 4 b Hawnes.[3]
