Biography

Joseph was a Friend (Quaker)

Joseph was the son of Samuel Coles and Hannah Pettifor. He was born at Buckingham, Buckinghamshire on 20 September 1755.^[1][2]

On 6 October 1794 Joseph married Joanna Bevan (daughter of James Bevan, husbandman, of Drayton Parslow, Buckinghamshire, and Mary) at Nash Quaker Meeting House, Buckinghamshire. The Quaker marriage record describes him as a miller and baker.^[3][4] They had the following children:

• James, born at Buckingham on 24 October 1795^[5][6]
• Joseph, born at Buckingham on 20 April 1797^[7][8]
• Hannah, born at Buckingham on 19 June 1798^[9][10]
• Henry, born at Buckingham on 14 September 1800,^[11][12] died on 7 November 1821 and was buried at Buckingham on 14 November^[13]
• Mary Bevan, born at Buckingham on 16 June 1810^[14][15]

Joseph died on 21 December 1819 and was buried on 28 December at Buckingham Quaker burial ground. His Quaker death and burial record describes him as a miller and baker.^[16][17]
