Research Notes

FTDNA Project: Haplogroup J2a - described by way of Wikipedia as "Greco-Anatolian, Mesopotamian and/or Caucasian". Also common amongst Sephardic Jews, and possibly supports some of the wilder theories on the Colletts' origins.

DNA testing might reveal connections to an early North American man with the surname of Montgomery, pre-Collett. (As researched by Barry Collet),

Melungeons, increasingly thought to be 17th to early 18th century freed North African men mixed with the white populace.

Rumors about Colletts: Portuguese Jews by way of the Caribbean.

Changed their name from Collins because of some forgotten scandal. This rumor is retold along with the Sizemores changing their name from Williams for the same reason. This probably doesn't apply to every Collett family.
