Thomas Collier was a Virginia colonist.

Thomas Collier, son of Isaac Collyer and Mary Lockey, is estimated to have been born about 1656 in York County, Virginia.

(Estimated birth year is based on about age 30 at marriage about 1686. His father's first wife Elizabeth, mother of Isaac Collier, Jr., died not long after Isaac, Jr's birth/baptism in 1653. Isaac, Sr. is estimated to have married his second wife Mary Lockey about 1654/55. Strutton-11 17:59, 18 March 2022 (UTC))

Thomas is listed as residuary legatee in the will written in 1667 of Edward Lockey, brother of Thomas' mother Mary Lockey, for property left his older half-brother Isaac Collier, Jr.

In 1671, following the death of Isaac Collier, Jr., Thomas inherited a plantation called Morgan's Plantation which had been left to Isaac, Jr., by Edward Lockey. In 1693 Thomas sold Morgan's Plantation on the York River to Dudley Digges, of Warwick County, Gent.[1]

Thomas is listed in the will of his father, Isaac Collyer, dated 10 March 1687/8 and proved 24 May 1688 in York County, Virginia. He was bequeathed a 1/4 share of 405 acres bought from Mr. Snignall in the Oaken Swamppe. He was also residual legatee if his brothers or his sister died without heirs. Thomas, his brothers Charles and Abraham, and their mother Mary Collyer were named executors.[2]

Marriage & Children

Thomas Collier married widow Mary (Unknown) Powers as his first wife and her second husband about 1686 in York County, Virginia. They had one known child:

  • Mary Collier, b abt 1688; she was under age 21 when her father died about January/February 1705.[3]

Death & Legacy

Thomas wrote his will on 25 October 1704 and it was proved on 24 February 1704/5 in York County, Virginia. In the will he names his wife Mary, minor daughter Mary, and siblings Charles Collier and Sarah (Collier) Whitaker.[3]
