Biography

Joseph Thomas Collin born at Quendon in Essex on the 14th of August 1809 was the son of John Collin, rector of Quendon and his wife, Anne Fisher. [1][2] Surprisingly no baptismal record has yet been identified. Joe started practicing as a solicitor at 16 Church St in Saffron Walden in 1834 [3] though in 1841 he was recorded in the census as at home with his parents. [4]

He married his cousin, Lucy Cross, daughter of William Cross and his wife, Judith Fisher in 1842. The marriage was registered at Royston in Hertfordshire. [5] They were grandchildren of the Reverend Edmund Fisher and his wife, Sarah Trott. They settled at Saffron Walden in Essex where Joe was a solicitor and began raising their family. [6] Joe witnessed the wedding of his brother-in-law, William Cross, to Isabel Batten on the11th of July 1854 at Kensington. [7]

The census returns show that they continued to live in considerable prosperity [8] [9] and in 1877 Joe was joined in his practise by his son, Turner. [3]

Joe died on the 7th of March 1888 at Wendens leaving an estate valued at £17899 19s and 7d. [10]
