Fortune Colin was born sometime between 1661 when her parents married, and 1677 when her father wrote his will. She was the daughter of Samuel Collin and his wife Sarah (formerly Poole). She was probably named for her kinswoman Fortune Collin, the wife of Thomas Smith.
Her father died in October 1677. He was at that time a mercer of Nottingham, although he bequeathed property in Great Easton, Leicestershire to his son (also Samuel). To Fortune he bequeathed £400 and the remainder of the property in Great Easton. As her brother Samuel died in December 1680, Fortune inherited the Great Easton property and a further £300.
Fortune had her will drawn up on 25 April 1702. She died on 29 April 1702 (from a witnessed note on the original will) and was buried at the parish church of St Peter, Nottingham on 30 April 1702. [1]

Fortune's will was proved at the Archdeaconry Court of Nottingham on 1 May 1702. [2] She left all her estate to her widowed mother, Sarah Collin. No other family members or legatees were mentioned in the well. Transcription of her will: Will of Fortune Collin, of Nottingham, 1702
