When Ida and her husband, Granville, would get in an argument, Granville would tell Ida that he wanted to be buried with his late first wife, Flora. This statement was apparently made in jest, as Granville is buried with Ida. (I was told this story by my father, Richard Combs, the grandson of Granville and Ida, on November 28, 2015)

Ida almost always wore an apron, with a pocket on each hip. In one pocket, she usually kept a package of plug-type chewing tobacco. In the other pocket, she usually kept a package of twist-type chewing tobacco. (This story has been told to me many times throughout my life by my father, Richard Combs, the grandson of Ida)
