My Name is Brenda Taff Suran. My Mother was the daughter of Voy and Grace Taff. We came across some papers that gives more detail about the Taaffe family settling in America. The history of the Taff family in American begins about 1740 near the town of Wardensville, Hardy County, West Virginia. Homer Taff Writes, Three Taff men, thought to be brothers from Ireland, settled here. The Name was spelled Taaffe, as it is in Ireland, by these men. The given names of these men were Peter, James and the other name is unknown. The one whose name is unknown, was killed by indians in 1758 on Warden's Fort, along with William Wallace Warden, Peter married Elizabeth Williams Warden, the widow of William Wallace Warden, soon after the death of Warden. Three sons were born to this marriage, Peter JR. followed by twins George and John. John apparently died as a youth. Peter Sr. died prior to 1782 and his wife Elizabeth died April. 5, 1805. Peter and James anglicised the spelling of the name Taaffe. Both were Revolutionaly War Veterans and both, with their families, migrated to Jefferson County, TN in the late 1790's. George lived in Jefferson County until his death March, 6, 1839 at Danbridge, Tenn. He was the father of eleven children, eight boys and three girls, James, William, Peter, George Jr. Rachel, Sarah, Jesse, Elizabeth, Wiley B. Issac A. and Jackson. Sons Isaac A. and George Jr. Stayed on the homeplace in Danbridge after George Sr. died and Wiley B. and Joe migrated to Cherokee County, Alabama. Wiley B. Taff was born in Danbridge February 28 1806 and married Elisa Ann Collins Graham, widow of George Graham of Dandridge on Oct. 18, 1836, Eliza Ann was born Jan. 23, 1811 and died in 1905. Wiley B. Taff homesteaded land in Cherokee County, Alabama buying it from the government survey between the years 1842 and 1851. He paid taxes to Cherokee County as early as 1837. His land, located in the valley at the foot of Lookout Mountain east of Little River Canyon, extended from Pleasant Hill Church and cemetary north to about a mile or two south of Blanche, Al and was later known as Taff, Alabama. After Wiley B. Died in 1855 his widow Eliza Ann, two sons and daughter lived the remainder of their lives on this land. His son John Taff, born feb. 15, 1852 was my great grandfather. He had 14 kids. We still own this property.
The above account misstates Eliza Ann's death as 1905, per gravestone photo it was 1897.

First husband George Graham is documented in "Notable Southern Families". These families were connected multi-generationally. Eliza Ann Collins was the daughter of Mahala Sehorn. Mahala had a brother John Sehorn Jr. As detailed in "Notable Southern Families", Mary Polly Graham, sister of George Graham, was married to John Sehorn Jr. Note, the author transposed the year of birth for Mary Graham showing 1748 rather than 1784. This becomes clear when looking at the birth years of siblings.
