The following excerpts were taken from Page 6A - The Carlsbad (New Mexico) Current Argus - March 28, 2000 WHEELER Services for Clara Wheeler, 97, will be today at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. She died on March 25 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Denton-Funchess is in charge of arrangements. She was born October 2, 1902, in Hempstead, Texas, to Francis M. and Emma Parker Collins. The family moved to Austin, Texas, when she was 9 . She married Silvo "S.O." Wheeler Sr. on January 9, 1919. The couple lived in Austin until moving to Carlsbad in 1935. She later lived in Dallas, Hurst, and Liberty Hill, Texas, before returning to Carlsbad. She was preceded in death by a son, Silvo Wheeler, and two daughters, Emma Keach and Lois Spencer. She is survived by seven grand-sons, Raymond Spencer and wife, Carolyn, of Wichita Falls, Texas, David Spencer and his wife, Mary, of Carlsbad, George Spencer and his wife, Pam, of Liberty Hill, Texas, Floyd Spencer and his wife, Debbie, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jerry Keach and his wife, Lucille, of Hurst, Texas, and Terry Keach and wife, Louise, of Big Sandy, Texas, and John Keach, address unknown; two granddaughters, Catherine DuPont and husband, Walt, of Missouri, and Raylene Spencer Murrill and husband, Dub, of Carlsbad; 23 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Wheeler's great-grandsons: Ray Spencer, Paul Spencer, Frank Spencer, Dan Spencer, Floyd Reed, Larry Pulis and Joel Spencer.

The El Paso times carried the following obit on March 28, 2000 Clara Wheeler, 97, of Carlsbad died Saturday (March 25, 2000). Funeral will be at 9 a.m. today in Denton-Funchess Funeral Home. Burial will be i n Carlsbad Cemetery. Survivors include her grandsons, Raymond Spencer, David Spencer, George Spencer, Floyd Spencer, Jerry Keach, Terry Keach and John Keach; her granddaughters, Catherine DuPont and Raylene Spencer Murrill; 23 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silvo "S.O." Sr.; her son, Silvo Wheeler; and her daughters, Emma Keach and Lois Spencer. She was a seamstress and lived in Carlsbad for 65 years.

After Silvo's death in 1949 Clara moved to Dallas, Texas and operated a sewing business until 1955. She moved back to Carlsbad and opened the "U Sew it Shop" on Mermod Street in November 1955. She operated that business until December 31, 1960.
