He was born about 1838 and is the son of Isaac Collins and Sarah Williams. Samuel grew up in Washington County, Tennessee along with seven siblings; Uriah Collins, Allen F Collins, Mary A Collins, Jonathan Collins, Susanna Collins, Valentine D Collins and Mary Jane Collins.[1]
During the US Civil War, Samuel served as a Private in Company G of the 29th Regiment of the Tennessee Infantry for the Confederate Army.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
