Biography

Eli was born on 15 Dec 1821 in Howard County, Arkansas. He was a son of William Ragland Collins and Nancy Patterson.[1][2]

On 7 Mar 1841, he married Matilda Nelson,[3] and they lived in Hempstead County, Arkansas, where they had three children:

  1. Mary Elizabeth (1841-1886)
  2. John (1842-)
  3. Frances Ann (1846-1909)

Matilda died in 1848, and Eli remarried, to Mariah Frances Cavett, in Bossier, Louisiana.[4] They made their home in Washington, Hempstead County, Arkansas, where they raised four children:[5]

  1. James Vance (1850-)
  2. Laura Octavia (1852-1922)
  3. Louisa (1855-)
  4. Kate (1859-)

Eli was a Master Carpenter, and also was appointed a U.S. Postmaster in 24 Jan 1861 for Millwood, Sevier County, Arkansas.[6]

Eli passed away in 1873 and was buried in Old Rondo Cemetery, Rondo, Miller County, Arkansas.[7]
