Richard Collins was born near Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland about 1790. He may have lived in Boolybane townland or in Munig North Parish.

Richard Collins probably had the following siblings or cousins, as they show up as baptismal sponsors for his children, and he sponsors their children's baptisms:
