Biography

Ireland Native
Bridget (Collins) Giblett was born in Ireland.

Bridget was born in 1818.

Bridget Collins grandfather Ryan was a farmer his daughter (Bridgets mother ) Mary Ryan had caused a disgrace in her family by running off with (Bridgets Father) Michael Collins a footman on her fathers estate Mary Ryan used to go riding with Michael Collins everyday 'Mary Ryan's family was so enraged at this match that they dispossessed their daughter entirely. She became the wife of a very poor man and lived on a small farm not too far from her own people as the only concession her father made to her in her new life was to send servants to help take off their crops at harvest time.' this kind of life from the luxury and comforts of an estate, to a penurial existence proved too much for Mary Collins she died within a few years leaving two daughters one reputedly called Mary and the other Bridget, it is not known what became of Mary.
Bridget was later to tell the story to her daughter Maria Giblett (later Beazley) of Northam of how her father used to weep over his wife's riding habit and the hat with the large white plume, which he kept locked in a chest. It is presumed Micheal Collins and his daughter's Mary and Bridget remained on the farm and that Bridget grew up there until she married. It is not known when or where Bridget met and married the man we assume to have been her first husband John Mears. There is no imformation on Mears of where they were married except they had one son. Bridget later married John Giblett on the 12 october 1840 so if she was married to John Mears it seems it was short lived as her son John was only 1 at time of her marriage to our John Giblett (this needs to be researched further)
