Biography
The son of Isaac Collins (1812-1880) and Mary Ann Allen (1822-1911), James was born in Macon Township in 1841,[citation needed] one of the first families to settle in Lenawee County. He lived there with his family.[1][2] He married Abigail (Harriott) Collins, marrying in 1868 and living at first with her parents in Macon Township.[3] By 1880, they had established their own household in Macon Township, farming.[4][5]
His wife died suddenly in 1904; in 1910, James lived with his wife's sister, Sarah Avery, and her family, residing in Macon Township and living on his own income.[6] Also in the household was his widowed mother-in-law, 83-year old Sarah Harriott. By 1920, he was again in his own household, farming, at the age of 78, in Macon Township.[7] He remained on the farm[8] until his death in 1934, at the age of 92.[9] He is buried with his wife at Macon Cemetery in Macon Township.[10]
